What I would like to propose that Meyer deserves as much, if not even more, credit than Mendeleev. ![]() Who Created the Periodic Table? Meyer deserves more credit Dmitri Mendeleev is typically credited with the discovery of the periodic table, but when he published his table, as many as 5 other authors in different countries had already published their own periodic tables, including one Lothar Meyer who had published several tables over a period of seven years. However, it was actually 150 years after just one of the discoverers. Many international conferences, special issues of journals, and entire volumes were dedicated to celebrating this event. The year 2019 marked the official 150th anniversary of the discovery of the periodic table. Scerri is a highly influential chemist but also a noted historian and philosopher of chemistry. He received his bachelor’s of science degree from Westfield College, the King's College London, his MPhil from the University of Southampton and his Ph.D. Scerri is widely acknowledged as an authority on the Periodic Table, appearing in the PBS documentary The Mystery of Matter. He is also Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Foundations of Chemistry, a triannual a peer-reviewed academic journal. ![]() ![]() Eric Scerri is Lecturer at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).
